Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with Therapy Services
Magen Mertens is a board-certified Psychiatric–Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with 17 years of nursing experience and a strong foundation in community health. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Frontier Nursing University in 2023 and brings a thoughtful, patient-centered approach to psychiatric care. Magen has experience treating a wide range of complex mental health conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders, and ADHD. Most recently at Old Town Clinic in Portland, Oregon, she provided care for individuals facing barriers to care with multifaceted psychiatric needs, developing individualized treatment plans that integrated medication management with therapeutic support. She has a particular interest in working with neurodivergent individuals and those experiencing depression and bipolar spectrum disorders. Her approach is humanistic and holistic, meaning she sees each patient as a whole person rather than a diagnosis. She emphasizes collaborative goal-setting, trauma-informed care, and respect for each individual’s values and identity. In practice, this includes incorporating psychotherapy-informed medication management, supporting lifestyle factors such as sleep and stress regulation, and encouraging sustainable strategies that promote long-term wellness. Outside of her clinical work, Magen enjoys travel, music, and film. She is an enthusiastic foodie and loves spending time with animals.
