Dr. Villegas-Gutiérrez completed her doctoral education and training in school psychology after beginning her career as a bilingual educator and seeing the disproportionate number of black, indigenous students of color in Special Education. While working as a school psychologist, she saw the alarming need for bicultural, bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking licensed psychologists in Oregon, and decided to complete a two-year postdoctoral program to become licensed as a Licensed Psychologist. She became licensed by the Oregon Board of Psychologists in 2009.
Dr. Villegas-Gutiérrez has provided therapy and psychological evaluation services to a wide age range of clients including children, adolescents and adults. Her main area of expertise is in bilingual/multicultural assessment, and she has extensive experience completing developmental disability evaluations. She has impacted the arena of multicultural assessment in Oregon in a number of important ways including her instrumental role in updating and revising the 2007 and 2015 Oregon Department of Education Special Education Assessment Process for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students. She currently represents the Oregon Psychological Association Board as Council Representative to the American Psychological Association.
She opened her private practice in 2018 where she provides culturally and linguistically appropriate assessments to mostly Spanish-speaking children and families with developmental disabilities, e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Neurocognitive Disorders, etc..
She recently joined the Autism Assessment Team at NW-ADHD Treatment Center and enjoys providing culturally responsive services to children, adolescents, and adults in both English and Spanish. For fun, Dr. Villegas-Gutiérrez enjoys spending time with her family, partner, friends, yoga, walking and cultivating her long life painting interest.
