Workshop Description

This one day workshop provides an overview of how to accurately diagnosis ADHD, particularly in adults. ADHD evaluation without proper training can result in over-diagnosis and improper prescribing of medication. Additionally, it is not uncommon for medical providers to have a bias against stimulant medication use in adults. Medications to treat ADHD are not thoroughly understood by patients or providers. Behavioral providers can benefit from understanding more about medications their patients may take. Additionally, training programs minimally focus on specific interventions for individuals with ADHD, specifically adults.

After completing this training, participants will report significantly improved confidence in accurately diagnosing ADHD in adults–including confidence in ruling out co-morbidities. Accurate diagnosis contributes to more rapid application of effective interventions, thereby improving quality of patient care.  Providers will feel more confident in being able to observe desirable and undesirable medication responses, and will feel more confident in treating inattention with behavioral techniques.

This continuing nursing education activity was approved by Oregon Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation

“Recognizing and Managing ADHD in Your Adult Patient” has been approved by NBCC for NBCC Credit. Tim Neary, Psy.D., and Danell Bjornson, PMHNP-BC are solely responsible for all aspects of the program.
